Martinis
Classic Martini
Serves 1
2+ 1/2 oz Gin
1/4 oz) Dry Vermouth
1 green olive OR a twist of lemon peel
6 ice cubes
Into a mixing glass, toss a handful of ice cubes (about half a dozen),
then pour in the Gin and the Vermouth.
Stir well. Some may prefer shaken!
Strain and pour into a martini glass.
To finish, either drop a green olive into the bottom of the martini
glass OR arrange a twist of lemon peel on the edge of the martini
glass.
Lemon Drop Martini
Serves: 1
1 1/2 ounces vodka
1/2 ounce Triple Sec
1 teaspoon superfine sugar
3/4 ounce freshly squeezed lemon juice
Ice cubes
Superfine sugar for dipping
Twisted peel of lemon
1. Mix the vodka, Triple Sec, sugar, and lemon juice in a cocktail
shaker half-filled with ice; shake well (supposedly the cocktail
is to be shaken 40 times to make sure the sugar is well blended).
Pour strained liquor into sugar-rimmed martini glass and garnish
with a twisted peel of lemon.
2. To create a sugar-rimmed glass, take a lemon wedge and rub the
drinking surface of the glass so it is barely moist. Dip the edge
of the glass into sugar.
Cosmopolitan
Serves 1
1.25 oz. Smirnoff No. 21 Vodka (25 oz. per bottle)
.25 oz. triple sec
1 oz. cranberry juice
lemon twist
. In a shaker with ice, add Smirnoff No.21 Vodka, triple sec, and
cranberry juice. hake and strain into a martini glass. Garnish with
lemon twist.
Cranberry Martini
Serves 1
1 oz vodka
1/2 oz Cointreau orange liqueur
3 oz cranberry juice*
chopped ice
lemon slice, for zing and garnish
Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker.
Add ice so that the shaker is about a third full (ice plus ingredients).
Shake for 20 seconds.
Strain into a cocktail glass.
Squeeze a couple of drops from the lemon slice into the glass, then
garnish the side of the cocktail glass with the slice of lemon.
Pomegranate Martini
Serves 1
1 oz vodka (or citrus vodka, if you have it)
1/2 oz Cointreau orange liqueur
3 oz pomegranate juice*
chopped ice
1/4 teaspoon lemon juice, for garnish
lemon slice, for garnish
sugar, for garnish
Wet the rim of the cocktail glass with the lemon juice.
Place sugar in a saucer and dip the rim of the cocktail glass into
the saucer, to produce a ring of sugar stuck to the lemon juice
as a decorative rim around the glass.
Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker.
Add ice so that the shaker is about a third full (ice plus ingredients).
Shake for 20 seconds.
Strain into a cocktail glass.
Squeeze a couple of drops from the lemon slice into the glass, then
garnish the side of the cocktail glass with the slice of lemon.
* You could use cranberry juice in place of the pomegranate juice
for a new twist on a 'Cosmopolitan' cocktail - truly scrumptious!
Breakfast Martini
Serves 1
2 oz Vodka
2 barspoons marmalade
8 icecubes
Into a cocktail shaker, pour the Vodka.
Add marmalade.
Add ice.
Shake sharply.
Pour and strain into a martini glass.
Strawberry Martini
Serves 1
2 oz Vodka
1/4 oz frais de bois (optional)
1/4 oz sugar syrup, or to taste
5 strawberries (fresh is best)
8 ice cubes
In a cocktail shaker, crush 4 strawberries using a barspoon or muddler.
Add Vodka, frais de bois (optional) and sugar syrup.
Add ice.
Shake well.
Pour and strain into a frosted martini glass.
Garnish the rim of the martini glass with the remaining strawberry.
Watermelon Martini
Serves 1
2 oz Vodka
ΒΌ oz sugar syrup
1 slice watermelon
ice
Chop the flesh of the water melon.
Pour the Vodka and the sugar syrup into a cocktail shaker.
Add watermelon flesh.
Add ice.
Shake vigorously for a minute or two.
Pour and strain into a frosted martini glass.
Finish by garnishing the rim of the martini glass with a thin slice
of watermelon
Chocolate Martini Shot
Serves 1
1 oz Vodka
1 oz) White Creme de Cacao
6 ice cubes
Into a cocktail shaker, pour the Vodka and White Creme de Cacao.
Add the ice cubes.
Shake well.
Strain and pour into a shot glass and enjoy it in one swift gulp!
Apple Martini
Serves 1
1 oz Vodka
1 oz Sour Apple Schnapps
1 oz apple juice
3 ice cubes
1 slice green apple
Into a cocktail shaker, pour the Vodka, Sour Apple Schnapps and
apple juice.
Add a few ice cubes.
Shake well.
Strain and pour into a martini glass.
To finish, garnish the rim of the martini glass with the slice of
green apple.
Dirty Martini
Serves 1
2 oz Gin
1/4 oz Dry Vermouth
1/4 oz olive brine
1 green olive
small wedge of lemon
Into a cocktail shaker, pour the Gin, Dry Vermouth and olive brine.
Add ice.
Shake well.
Rub the rim of the martini glass with the wedge of lemon.
Strain and pour contents of cocktail shaker into a martini glass.
Drop the olive into the martini before serving.
Blue Martini
Serves 1
2 oz Bombay Sapphire Gin
1 oz Blue Curacao Liqueur
twist of lemon
6 ice blocks/cubes
Into a cocktail shaker, pour the Gin and Curacao.
Add ice.
Shake well.
Strain and pour into a martini glass.
Finish by arranging a twist of lemon on the edge of the martini
glass.
Vanilla Martini
Serves 1
2 oz Vanilla Vodka (Stolichnaya is good, or any brand you like)
1/4 oz sugar syrup, or to taste
large handful fresh cranberries
8 ice cubes
In a cocktail shaker, gently crush most of the cranberries using
a barspoon.
Pour in Vodka and sugar syrup.
Add ice.
Shake well.
Pour and strain into a frosted martini glass.
Use remaining few cranberries to garnish the rim of the martini
glass
Chocolate Mint Martini
Serves 1
2 oz Vodka
1 oz Creme de Cacao (white)
15ml Creme de Menthe (white)
cocoa for dusting rim of glass
couple extra drops of Creme de Cacao
sprig of mint
ice
Into a shaker filled with ice, pour the Vodka, White Creme de Cacao
and Creme de Menthe.
Shake well.
Rub rim of martini glass with a couple of drops of Creme de Cacao,
then dip martini glass rim into a shallow dish of cocoa.
Strain and pour contents of cocktail shaker into a frosted martini
glass.
Finish by arranging the mint sprig on the rim of the martini glass.
Sweet Martini
Serves 1
1 oz Gin
1 oz Sweet Vermouth
1 green olive
Into a mixing glass, pour the Gin and the Vermouth.
Stir well.
Pour into a martini glass.
To finish, drop a single green olive into the bottom of the martini
glass.
Key Lime Martini
Serves 1
1+ 1/2 oz) Vodka
1+ 1/2 oz) Malibu Coconut Rum
1/2 oz lime juice syrup
6 ice cubes
slice of lime
Into a cocktail shaker, pour the Vodka, Rum and lime juice syrup.
Add ice.
Shake well.
Strain and pour into a martini glass.
Finish by arranging the slice of lime on the rim of the martini
glass.
